FAQs

What kind of petition should I use?

That’s completely up to you. They each have their pros and cons. People may be more likely to sign a Blind petition since their names will not be revealed. On the other hand, a Transparent or Semi-Blind petition will have more sway over management since people are revealing their identities.

Can the creator of the petition see who signs?

It depends on the type of petition being used: Blind Petitions: signatures are anonymous to everyone, including the creator. BoPeep encrypts your identity so that nobody can tell who signed. The only thing recorded on the petition is the number of people that signed. Semi-Blind Petitions: signatures are anonymous to everyone, including the creator, until a threshold number of signatures is met. BoPeep encrypts your signature so that nobody can tell that you signed until the threshold is met. If the threshold is met, the creator of the petition will be allowed to decrypt the petition, and all the signatures will be revealed. If the threshold is not met, your signature remains encrypted and eventually the petition deletes itself after two weeks. Transparent Petitions: signatures are visible to everyone.

Can the creator of the petition make edits to the text of the petition after it is sent out?

No.

Is the creator of a petition anonymous?

Yes. If they sign the petition, their name will appear as a signature, but the petition will not say who created it.

What happens if the threshold is not met in a Semi-Blind petition?

If the threshold is not met, the signatures remain encrypted, nobody's name is revealed, and eventually the petition deletes itself after two weeks.

How are names organized on the final petition?

Alphabetically.

What information is visible on the final petition?

Transparent petitions: the text of the petition, and the names and email addresses of the people who signed it. You can find an example HERE. Semi-Blind petitions: the text of the petition, and the names and email addresses of the people who signed it. You can find an example HERE. Blind petitions: the text of the petition, the number of people it was sent to, the domain names of their email addresses (i.e. @gmail.com, @hotmail.com, etc.), and the number of people who signed it. You can find an example HERE.

Does it cost money?

What if BoPeep’s emails are caught in a spam filter?

Unfortunately, this might happen. Every spam filter is different and some are more sensitive than others. If emails are caught in the spam filter, you might need to ask recipients to check their spam folder for an email from BoPeep. When the petition is final, you can either email it to the intended recipient directly, or print it out and give it to them in hard copy. BoPeep is constantly working to fine-tune its platform, including to ensure that our emails are not marked as spam.

Why is the platform called “BoPeep”?

We named ourselves after that old nursery rhyme: Little BoPeep has armed her sheep, With the tools for collective action. Leave them alone and they’ll reform, The cause of their dissatisfaction.
